Furness College is a highly successful further education college based in the north west of England, which specialises in engineering and other STEM subject as well as providing a broad range of further and higher education closely linked with the needs of major employers.
The college operates from two sites within the town of Barrow-in-Furness, having recently merged with the local sixth form college to provide a broad base of technical, professional and academic education to students and employers across Cumbria and North Lancashire. The college is particularly proud of its close relationship with nuclear sector employers but especially with BAE Systems Maritime Submarines. The college has close links with the University of Cumbria, the University of Central Lancashire and Lancaster University to deliver high quality higher education programmes.
The excellent quality of education and training provided by Furness College has been recognised nationally by Ofsted through the award of the outstanding grade for provision in engineering and law and by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) who commended the college’s provision in higher education.
Engineering and advanced manufacturing provision at the college ranges from level 1 to level 6, across craft and technical disciplines ensuring that students have access to high value employment opportunities whatever their previous educational achievement.
In recent years the college has invested £47million in the main college campus with the most recent development being the Advanced Manufacturing and Technology centre which opened in September 2016.
The college has recently been invited to become one of the first members of the Chartered Institute for Further Education.
