UK Nuclear Skills Awards Launch New “People Power Award – Skills Leading Change” Category
New Award Recognises the Vital Role of Skills Development in Advancing Social Value Across the UK Nuclear Industry.
The UK Nuclear Skills Awards, organised by NSAN and Cogent Skills, are, for the first time, shining a spotlight on social value with the introduction of a brand-new category: the People Power Award – Skills Leading Change. This award honours organisations within the UK’s nuclear sector that are delivering meaningful social impact, enabled by the development of skills, whether within their workforce, supply chain, or local communities.
Social value is now a vital part of responsible business, reflecting the positive influence organisations have on people, communities and wider society. As the nuclear sector supports inclusive growth, wellbeing, and sustainability across the country, the importance of social value initiatives has never been greater.
This award celebrates initiatives where skills development drives social value. Whether it’s through upskilling staff and supply chain partners, opening employment pathways for underrepresented groups, or providing targeted training for apprentices and community members, the focus is on the transformative effect of investing in people.
Examples of eligible initiatives include:
- Upskilling workforces or supply chains to support social value projects.
- Creating pathways into employment for individuals facing barriers
- Enabling employees, apprentices, or local residents to make a positive difference through learning and development.
- Embedding skills initiatives into programmes aimed at environmental sustainability, social mobility, or economic resilience.
To qualify, organisations must show that skills development is an integral and planned part of their initiative, leading to tangible and lasting social value.
The award is open to all organisations working in the nuclear sector, including supply chain partners, regardless of size or primary business focus.
Andrew McIvor, Head of Policy and Strategy at NSAN commented:
“The introduction of this new award category builds on the nuclear industry’s enduring commitment to delivering social value and highlights the exceptional efforts of organisations that are actively shaping a brighter future for individuals, local communities and the nation as a whole.”
