Empower Your Future With A Nuclear Bursary

People across the UK with the ambition to build a career in nuclear are being urged to apply for the Nuclear Bursary, providing an opportunity designed to break down barriers to training and help unlock careers in one of the country’s most vital and fast-growing sectors.

Funded through the Nuclear Skills Plan and delivered by the National Skills Academy for Nuclear (NSAN), the bursary will support people who are ready to take the next step into the sector but need extra help to get there.

It is aimed at school leavers, students, adult learners and career changers pursuing study or training linked to the UK nuclear industry. The civil and defence nuclear sectors in the UK are undergoing unprecedented growth, opening up a wide range of exciting career opportunities for both new entrants and those seeking to advance in their careers.

Nuclear offers a wide range of rewarding career opportunities across both civil and defence, including roles in engineering, operations, digital, project management, environmental protection, safety, science, business support and more. As the sector grows, demand for talented people from many different backgrounds is increasing, making this an exciting time to pursue a career in nuclear.

Open to people aged 18 or over with the right to live and work in the UK, the Nuclear Bursary is designed to back talented people who may face financial or personal barriers to progressing. That could include low household income, eligibility for means-tested benefits, living in an area of high deprivation or low participation in further or higher education. Applications are welcomed from people from all backgrounds, especially those who may not otherwise have access to financial support.

Mark Rouse, Nuclear Skills Director of Nuclear Sector Skills Team, said:

“The Nuclear Bursary is about creating real opportunity and making sure talent is not held back by circumstance. As the industry grows and demand for skills accelerates, we need to back people with the potential to shape nuclear’s future. This is an investment in ambition, inclusion and the workforce the UK needs for the years ahead.”

Tricia Austin, Managing Director of NSAN, said:

“For many people, the biggest barrier to progressing into training or education is not talent, it is access to support. This bursary can make a real difference by easing financial pressure, helping people focus on their learning and giving them the confidence to pursue a career in the nuclear sector. At a time when nuclear will play such an important role in the UK’s future, it is vital that talented people from all backgrounds can see a clear route into the industry.”

Successful applicants will benefit from financial support to help them achieve their goals, access to industry-leading resources, alongside mentoring and training support.

The bursary reflects the wider ambition of the Nuclear Skills Plan to strengthen the UK’s pipeline of talent and ensure that people from all backgrounds can access opportunities in the nuclear sector.
