Triple Bar Nuclear Security (TBNS)
The Triple Bar Nuclear Security (TBNS) is a ‘three bar’ training course delivered online.  The Triple Bar Nuclear Security (TBNS) course is designed to provide a fundamental level of nuclear security knowledge to a broad, global audience.
Course Overview

This course represents a progression of knowledge about nuclear security such as threats and nuclear security, the nuclear security legal framework, the role of the IAEA, facilities and methods of prevention, detection and response relating to nuclear security breaches and other key nuclear security elements.


The TBNS course comprises of three 'bars':

Bar One: Basic nuclear fundamentals
Explores the use and renaissance of nuclear energy; introduces the IAEA as the world’s centre of co-operation in the nuclear security field; delves into Safety, Security and Safeguards and finally explains how to establish a national nuclear security regime.
Bar Two: Basic nuclear security essentials
Provides an understanding of the key approaches to nuclear security for materials in and out of regulatory control. The role and function of physical protection systems, and how forward planning aids in an effective response to threat detection.
Bar Three: Nuclear safety, culture and sustainability

Explains what effective security culture is, including the human factors surrounding information security and computer security. The end point addresses sustaining a nuclear security regime.

Who should complete it?

The course is aimed at organisations, or individual employees who wish to gain an overview of nuclear security, further information on specific nuclear security areas, or if an individual’s job involves nuclear security capacity based on the areas outlined below. Any individual that completes the TBNS will have a distinct advantage when progressing to an IAEA classroom based nuclear security training course.
