Tricia Austin

Managing Director

I have been with NSAN since 2008 and I’m a highly skilled leader, manager and engineering professional with over 28 years in the energy, defence and utilities sectors.  I have a unique mix of experience in both the private and public sectors with considerable skills in managing the complex interface between the two and have worked on and delivered multi-faceted projects in this complex environment in a diverse range of areas – strategic, technical, education and skills – there isn’t anything that I can’t find some sort of a solution for or make the right connection!

Away from work if I’m not being a taxi to two “teenagers”, I’ll be either at the gym, away in our VW camper with our beloved dog or in the kitchen practicing my “bake off” skills…..which normally involves me saying yes to a project I often regret from wedding cakes to birthday cakes.

Nicola Jefferies

Operations Director

I joined NSAN in May 2016 as a Client Relationship Manager, working as part of the Operations Team supporting our members in navigating skills and delivering training interventions. In June 2023, I proudly stepped into the role of Operations Director, overseeing a dedicated team that delivers skills, training, and competency management solutions to members and the wider nuclear industry. I also serve as company secretary and sit on the NSAN Board, helping shape the strategic direction of our organisation.

Before life at NSAN, I spent several years immersed in the world of education and training, helping companies embrace work-based learning and apprenticeships. However, my true passion lies in recruitment, which is where my career began after university. For over a decade, I successfully ran my own recruitment business, developing skills in building relationships and managing talent. Today, I apply these skills to benefit NSAN’s membership and customers, always focused on connecting people and creating opportunities for growth.

Outside of work, life is just as eventful. I have two amazing adult children, who keep me grounded, entertained, and occasionally remind me how out of touch I am with whatever new thing is trending online! When I’m not trying to keep up with them, I’m enjoying exploring new destinations and discovering the thrill of new experiences—whether that’s diving into a new hobby or traveling to places I’ve never been. I believe that life is a continuous adventure, and I’m always looking for the next chapter to add to the story!

Head of Policy & Strategy

I have worked with and for NSAN for over 10 years. A key part of my current policy and strategy role is bringing NSAN members together to share knowledge and insights, and to work collaboratively with the NSAN network and other stakeholders to address shared people and skills challenges.

My background is in the learning, skills, and qualifications sectors, with a specific focus on the nuclear industry since 2013.

Outside of work, I balance my somewhat geeky interest in politics and skills policy developments with more active pursuits like dog walking, camping, and occasional morning workouts. Unfortunately, I also indulge my love of cooking.

I joined NSAN in 2008 as a member of the original business planning team for a 12-month contract, and my enthusiasm for NSAN has kept me here ever since! Currently, I am the Head of Communications and Digital Solutions, a role that perfectly balances my creative and technical interests. My passion lies in promoting NSAN’s excellence to the world and exploring innovative ways to offer cutting-edge learning opportunities. Every time I provide a solution to a challenge, I consider it a day well spent.

Outside of my professional life at NSAN, I am an avid traveller, always counting down to my next adventure! Additionally, I am a proud dog mum to two pampered pups, Nandor and Tilly, who frequently keep me company by warming my feet under my desk.

I originally joined NSAN from 2013-2016 to manage large programmes – firstly Give2Gain and then the Nuclear Industrial Partnership. I returned to NSAN on a permanent basis in 2018 and then in 2023 I joined the SMT and head up quality, projects, risk, development and continue to manage our End Point Assessment (EPA) business.

My background is in energy, largely focussed on project management and innovations. Much of my experience has come from managing large projects and programmes and controlling large amounts of public funding. My background in geology has also prompted my keen interest in geological disposal, and an inability to visit a beach without coming home with a pocket full of stones!

As a West Cumbrian I’ve developed a love of high places and, outside of work, am never happier than when I’m skiing or running in the fells.

Client & Business Development Manager

I joined NSAN as Client Relationship Manager in September 2023.

Since graduating in Business Management from Edge Hill University almost 10 years ago I have worked across a couple of different industries from Hotel & Travel through to Business Services (HR & Training). I have a passion for building relationships and delivering a trusted service, having worked within an established membership organisation for the past 7 years.

Whilst being relatively new to the Nuclear industry, I’m really excited to build my knowledge and understanding, while in turn helping businesses achieve their objectives.

Away from work you will often find me doing some form of sporting activity (I don’t like to sit still). Whether that’s on the golf course, football pitch or tennis court. I also enjoy spending time with my family and going for long walks with my dog Nellie (who also like me does not like to sit still).

I joined NSAN towards the end of 2024. I’ve always worked in finance but in different industries – outsourcing, engineering, transportation, and construction. I am new to the nuclear sector, but it has really impressed me with its inclusivity and forward thinking – I’m looking forward to finding out more!

I only work part-time time so I have the advantage of having a long weekend every week! With two young-ish children, there is never a quiet day! I love spending time with my family and friends – days out with family, watching women’s football, exercising or catching up with friends over a meal.

I joined NSAN in August 2021, after graduating from Liverpool John Moores University with a degree in Graphic Design & Illustration. While at Uni I found myself most interested in digital branding projects and thought this would be the best field for me to expand my knowledge of marketing, while also honing my graphic design skills. So, when the opportunity to work as a Digital Marketing Officer at NSAN came up, I jumped at the chance. I am excited to work with such an amazing team and to learn all that NSAN has to offer and more so!

Outside of work, you’re most likely to find me out for food and some drinks, or going on a nice long walk to make sure I get my steps in for the day! Either that or as my family likes to say, you’ll find me “horizontal watching some rubbish on the tele”, but there’s nothing wrong with a bit of binge-watching.

Previously, I worked in the manufacturing sector for over 20 years, mainly supplying the nuclear and other safety related industries.

Outside of work I enjoy running, cycling and gardening alongside time with family. I’m also kept on my toes by our two cats, Miranda and Gizmo.

I joined NSAN in November 2021.  Before this I worked in HR, recruitment and training roles within a mix of industries and a range of small to large businesses.

I spend my spare time running around after my family who are football, golf and cricket mad.  Because of their hobbies, I have developed my own hobby of buying coats, boots and various clothing for all weathers which I love doing.  You will also find me in a step class at the gym, walking with our dog Coco and spending time catching up with friends and family.

I’ve been with NSAN since March 2023, after a long career working in teaching and quality & compliance roles in an FE College and a large awarding organisation.

Prior to working in education, I was lucky enough to work as a ski instructor, but a serious back condition sadly forced those days to end.

When not at work, despite my back problems, I volunteer for British Cycling as a ride leader and also enjoy cycle touring.

I have two elderly cats – one of whom (Clingycat) appears on Teams meetings so much she should really be put on payroll!
